Japanese Men Reveal the Ideal 'Good Woman'
A dating app in Japan surveyed 100 men on what makes a 'good woman,' and the results are a perfect instruction manual.
The Official Verdict
So, the matchmaking service HappyMail (run by a company in Fukuoka, of all places) decided to get to the bottom of a pressing issue. They asked 100 adult Japanese men: what, exactly, is an 'ii onna' (いい女)?
First, the good news. A full 74% of respondents said they know a 'good woman' in real life, which the company noted means they're not some mythical creature but are, in fact, walking among us. Probably at the office or in your friend group.
The 5 Commandments of a Good Woman
The survey then asked for specifics, and the answers coalesced into five main traits. Feel free to take notes.
First is being 'considerate of those around you.' This means being able to do things for others naturally and subtly, without making a big show of it.
Second is 'having a strong core.' Not in the pilates sense, but being independent, not reliant on men, and having your own solid opinions.
Third is simply 'having a gentle personality.' The quotes included things like being 'kind and bright' and 'someone you can depend on.'
Fourth, and this is the interesting one, is having an 'elegant sex appeal.' We'll come back to this.
Finally, the fifth trait is having a 'charming smile.' A natural smile, not a forced one, that makes people feel at ease. Easy enough, right? 🫠
On the Subject of 'Elegant Sex Appeal'
Let's talk about '品のある色気がある' (hin no aru iroke ga aru). This isn't just 'sexy.' It’s a very specific, very Japanese concept of refined, graceful allure. It's the kind of sex appeal that is suggested, not flaunted.
It’s poise. It’s class. It’s knowing you're attractive without ever having to try to prove it. It's the opposite of being loud or obvious. It's the kind of thing you see in old movies and wonder how they do it.
So there you have it. The complete guide. No pressure.
