The Secret to Looking Young Is Annoyingly Obvious
Turns out the secret to looking young isn't expensive SK-II or weird supplements, it's just... a whole lot of effort.
A recent article dug into the one thing people who look eternally 25 have in common. According to Dr. Gabrielle Lyon, a specialist in geriatric medicine, the answer is so simple it’s almost insulting.
It’s not some magic cream. It's diet and exercise. That's it. That's the post. Well, kind of.
The Diet Part (aka Goodbye, Konbini)
The first step is to manage what you put in your body. The advice is to always choose high-quality, fresh ingredients and avoid ultra-processed, pre-packaged foods. So... basically my entire diet of 7-Eleven sandwiches, Famichiki, and cup noodles is out.
The book also suggests weighing your food on a kitchen scale until you can accurately eyeball portions. I can barely fit a microwave in my 1K apartment, but sure, let me just add a food scale to the non-existent counter space. 😅
The Exercise Part (aka When, Exactly?)
This is where it gets really fun. Dr. Lyon’s basic weekly goal is, shall we say, ambitious for anyone navigating the Tokyo Metro during rush hour.
Just casually fit in: 150 minutes of moderate-to-high intensity cardio, 3-4 days of strength training, AND one day of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). Every. Single. Week.
The author notes that while there are many ways to exercise, there's one method that is absolutely wrong: doing nothing at all. Okay, I feel seen.
