A Cooler Way to Say 'But' in Japanese

I used to say「でも」(demo) for everything, until someone told me this.

To sound a little more adult, try swapping it with 「〜ものの」(monono).

It’s for when a result is different than you expected.

It feels a bit like 'although... even so...'

I actually used it yesterday: 奮発(ふんぱつ)して高(たか)い傘(かさ)を買(か)ったものの、風(かぜ)が強(つよ)すぎて結局(けっきょく)びしょ濡(ぬ)れになった。😅

(Funpatsu shite takai kasa o katta monono, kaze ga tsuyosugite kekkyoku bishonure ni natta.)

Basically: I splurged on a nice umbrella, but got soaked anyway.
